As the Communications & Marketing Director at Waterkeeper Alliance, Maia strengthens and amplifies the voice of the international Waterkeeper movement through capacity building, advocacy, communications, and fundraising. By identifying emerging technologies and trends, she ensures that Waterkeeper Alliance is utilizing the best tools to further its mission by leading and building our presence in traditional and digital media.
Maia grew up on Connecticut’s Branford River, volunteering with local environmental groups whose work focused on the estuary and surrounding wetlands. She received her BA from The New School with a concentration in Urban Environmental Policy & Sustainability, focusing her study on environmental health, justice and anthropology. After graduation, she spent a year in AmeriCorps working as a CSA organizer in Crown Heights for the New York City Coalition Against Hunger (now Hunger Free America). Before joining Waterkeeper Alliance, she was the Marketing Manager at Brooklyn Brewery, where she oversaw social media, press relations, marketing initiatives & community partnerships. She lives in Brooklyn with her adorable husband, stepson, dog, and cat.
